Retired Firefighter
Dougie began his career back in 1999 as a volunteer firefighter over a four-year period, which also included firefighting for his local nuclear power station.
His volunteer experience stood him in good stead, as he became a fulltime firefighter in 2004, going on to serve 22 years.
These years spanned an impressive career, seeing him stationed in Orkney before he moved over to the Western Isles. While stationed in these two locations, he took on various roles which included becoming an officer before rising to Group Commander. An achievement he is deeply proud of to this day.
In addition to firefighting, Dougie worked, and continues to work with, Anthony Nolan, the blood cancer charity that matches stem cell donors with patients who need a transplant. His work with Anthony Nolan was so inspiring that it even led to him being invited to Holyrood to meet the King!
