    Connector types explained

Type 2 (AC Charging): Standard for 7kW-22kW charging at hotels, shops, and workplaces. Most locations require your own cable. Compatible with all modern UK EVs.

CCS (Rapid Charging): Delivers 50kW-350kW for fast charging. Adds 200 miles in 20-30 minutes. Found at motorway services and major charging hubs.

CHAdeMO: Older standard mainly for Nissan vehicles. Still widely available but being phased out.

Tesla/NACS: Supercharger network access for Tesla vehicles only. Highest reliability ratings but limited compatibility.

    Smart Charging Strategy

    Smart charging strategy

Plan with backup options - charging infrastructure isn't 100% reliable yet.

Charge to 80% at rapid chargers for optimal speed and cost. Use charging time for meals or shopping. Move your vehicle promptly when charging completes.

Download network apps before traveling and verify your payment methods work. Report station issues to help other drivers avoid problems.

The map updates in real-time with network status, user reports, and availability data. Whether it's a local trip or cross-country journey, you'll find reliable charging solutions across the UK.

    Frequently asked questions

Common questions about EV charging stations

My EV won't charge - what should I do?
First, check if your battery is already at 80% (many rapid chargers stop here automatically). Ensure the connector is firmly clicked into place - loose connections are common with CCS plugs. If it still won't work, try a different charging unit or contact the station's 24/7 helpline for remote assistance.
Which connector type does my EV use?
Most UK EVs use Type 2 for AC charging (7-22kW) and CCS for rapid DC charging (50kW ). Nissan Leaf uses CHAdeMO for rapid charging. Tesla vehicles use their proprietary connector for Superchargers. Check your vehicle manual or the charging port label to confirm compatibility.
Why is charging slower than advertised?
Charging speed depends on your battery level - it slows significantly above 80%. Cold weather reduces performance by 20-30%. Some stations share power between multiple vehicles. Your vehicle's maximum charging rate may also be lower than the station's capability.
Can I charge my EV in rain or bad weather?
Yes, all UK charging stations are built to weatherproof standards (IP54 or higher). They're safe to use in rain, snow, and wind. However, avoid standing water and ensure your hands are dry when handling connectors for optimal safety and connection reliability.
How can I plan long-distance EV journeys?
Always plan with backup charging options - infrastructure isn't 100% reliable. Use route planning apps that account for your vehicle's charging curve. Pre-download network apps and set up payment methods. Build buffer time for occupied stations or slower charging speeds.
