Who is Lepas?

Lepas is brand-new to the UK. Its parent company is anything but.

Lepas is the fourth brand from Chery International to land on British shores, following Omoda, Jaecoo and Chery itself. And those three have made quite an entrance with Omoda and Jaecoo alone having sold more than 100,000 cars in the UK since arriving in 2024.

So, while the badge is unfamiliar, the engineering behind it isn't.

Lepas itself sits slightly further upmarket than its sister brands. The name blends 'leopard' and 'passion', and that big cat theme runs right through the design language. Even the LED daytime running lights are shaped to echo a leopard's eye, and the bodywork is all sweeping curves and pronounced haunches. Every Lepas is built on the brand's own LEX platform, developed around cabin space, structural efficiency and driver assistance tech.

The L8 is the first model here, with the mid-size L6 and smaller L4 following behind it very soon.

Which Lepas models do Motorfinity offer?

The Lepas L8 is currently the only model available in the UK, with customer deliveries having started in September 2026. We offer discounted prices on brand-new Lepas models to eligible frontline workers, and we hope to be adding the L6 and L4 as soon as they arrive.

Here's our take on the L8.

Lepas L8

Purple Lepas L8 parked in front of a wall.

The L8 is a five-seat family SUV - think Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4.

Space is where it really lands the first punch. At 4,688mm long with a 2,800mm wheelbase, there's rear legroom that'll make a six-foot passenger feel like they've been upgraded.

Headroom is generous too, helped along by the panoramic sunroof. The boot stretches easily to 507 litres with extra storage under the floor, which should be plenty for the weekly shop!

Inside, Lepas has gone premium-minimalist. A 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen flows down into the centre console, paired with a 10.25-inch digital driver's display. There are soft-touch, padded surfaces throughout, and a proper bank of physical climate buttons rather than everything being buried in menus.

There's even a scent diffuser, a feature usually reserved for cars costing three times as much.

The powertrain is the headline act. Every L8 uses the Lepas Super Hybrid System: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and an 18.4kWh battery.

The petrol engine largely acts as a generator for the electric motor, which means the L8 drives far more like an EV than a conventional hybrid, smooth, quiet, and with instant shove when you ask for it.

The figures back that up:

Feature Output
Electric-only range Up to 56 miles
Combined range Up to 745 miles
Fuel economy Up to 403.5mpg
CO2 21g/km
Power/torque 275bhp/365Nm
0-62mph 7.9 seconds
DC rapid charge 30-80% in around 20 minutes

For anyone doing a short commute, a hospital run, a station car park, the school gates, 56 miles of electric range covers most days without the engine waking up at all. Then you've got 745 miles of combined range for the long haul.

And at 21g/km, the L8 qualifies for free entry into London's ULEZ.

FAQs

Lepas is a brand of Chery International, one of the world's largest car manufacturers and China's leading passenger vehicle exporter for 23 consecutive years. It's the same group behind Omoda, Jaecoo and Chery, all of which are already established in the UK.

The L8 is a strong choice if space, equipment and running costs are your priorities. It offers 507 litres of boot space, up to 56 miles of electric range and a level of standard kit that costs considerably more elsewhere. It's backed by a 7-year/100,000-mile warranty.

The L8 launches as a plug-in hybrid, combining a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with an 18.4kWh battery for up to 56 miles of pure-electric driving. A fully electric version is expected in 2027.
