Remember the Audi A2? The little aluminium hatchback that looked like nothing else on the road?
It's back. And this time, it's electric.
Twenty-one years after the original bowed out, the A2 returns as what Audi calls its most efficient car ever. Up to 401 miles of range. Premium tech as standard. And the most affordable way into an electric Audi.
In this Audi A2 e-tron review, we cover the essential areas, including:
- Interior
- Exterior
- Practicality
- Price
- And more!
The verdict
The A2 e-tron is built around efficiency, not just a bigger battery. You get a compact electric hatchback with a genuine long-range option, premium tech as standard and a price that opens up Audi's EV range to far more drivers. It keeps the original's spirit (clever aerodynamics, distinctive looks) while fixing its biggest weakness: price.

Batteries and range
There are three batteries and four power outputs to choose from:
| Power | Battery (gross) | Range (WLTP, up to) |
|---|---|---|
| 170 PS | 52kWh | 262 miles |
| 190 PS | 61kWh | 310 miles |
| 231 PS | 84kWh | 401 miles |
| 326 PS | 84kWh | 391 miles |
The two smaller batteries use LFP chemistry, which is cheaper and happy being charged to 100% regularly. The 84kWh battery uses NMC chemistry, which holds more energy and charges faster. That's how the top models reach close to 400 miles.
Charging from 10-80% takes around 24 minutes on the 84kWh models (up to 183kW) and around 29 minutes on the smaller batteries (around 105kW). The built-in e-tron route planner works out your charging stops for you.
New to electric? Our Go Electric guide covers the basics.
"Range is still the first thing most customers ask me about when they're thinking of going electric. With the A2 e-tron, you've got real choice. The smaller batteries are perfect for commutes and school runs, but if you're doing long shifts or regular motorway miles, getting close to 400 miles from the bigger battery takes a lot of the worry away."

Interior
The cabin doesn't feel like a typical Audi. It's light, airy and relaxed, with a sweeping dashboard wrapped in soft, partly recycled material.
Every model gets an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit plus a 12.8-inch curved touchscreen, with an AI voice assistant built in. Other smart touches include:
- Magnetic wireless charging for two phones
- Paddles that select between four levels of regenerative braking
- Fidlock clip-in points for cupholders and bags
One thing to note: there are no physical air-con buttons. Temperature is controlled through the touchscreen.
"The first thing that strikes you is how light and open the cabin feels for a car this size. You get the big curved screen and the virtual cockpit as standard, so even the entry-level car feels properly premium. The magnetic phone charging is a lovely touch too. No more phones sliding around the centre console."
- Olivia Wise, Account Manager.
Exterior
There are nods to the original throughout: a closed-off grille, a teardrop profile and a sharply cut-off rear.
At the front, slim lights offer four digital signatures. One minor drawback is the split rear window: it improves aerodynamics, but the central bar can take time to get used to when checking the rear-view mirror.
Practicality and running costs
At around 4.3 metres long, it's easy to park, yet the flat electric floor frees up generous rear space. It suits individuals, couples and small families who want premium quality without stepping up to an SUV.
High efficiency means lower charging costs, especially at home. Zero tailpipe emissions also help company car drivers with Benefit-in-Kind tax.
On the warranty side, you get three years / 60,000 miles on the car and eight years / 100,000 miles on the battery.
