Andy began his military career in the Royal Navy, where he served for nine years from 1980 until 1989.
During his time in the Royal Navy, he was based at opposite ends of the UK, first in Scotland, and then eventually Plymouth. During this time, he was responsible for a surface ship and two nuclear submarines.
After serving his time in the Royal Navy, Andy would go into logistics as a lorry driver, before enrolling through University for a mathematics degree courtesy of an impressive sponsorship from the Duke of Wellington Infantry Regiment.
His studies, alongside his impressive military CV, would go on to hold him in good stead in civilian life as he established himself at Budweiser. During this time, he worked his way up in the Distribution department, where he achieved management status.
Today, Andy still provides a helping hand to the submarine service, regularly attending the base to provide his invaluable support.

It’s got the essentials including reversing cameras, aircon and electric windows in addition to loads of features which I didn’t expect for a car with that price range. It also has an app to see how much charge is in it, while also allowing me to switch the air conditioner on for a quarter of an hour before I get in the car to cool it down or heat it up. It even came with a plug that allows me to power other appliances. So, I can actually use the car to power electronics.”
Making huge savings on fuel
The cost of fuel was a key factor towards swaying Andy to invest in an all-electric car. And he’s already begun reaping the financial benefits.
Not only is electric charging proving to be considerably cheaper than fuel, but the Dacia Spring offers impressive range for driving around town, while the ability to charge overnight has introduced a level of convenience that has been warmly welcomed.
“We’re getting 140 miles from £4.80 electric. We’re saving around two tanks worth of diesel costs if not more – so around £90 a tank which equates to around £180. Dacia claims 140 range but depending on how you drive it alongside the regenerative braking, we’ve experienced up to 160 miles of range which is great. It takes 6-8 hours to charge fully, so I plug it in overnight and once it’s fully charged it switches itself off. I can also amend it on the app to charge to 80% or 100%.”
